  • Author: Simon
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Sweet and Sticky Steak Bites feature tender sirloin cubes marinated in a flavorful blend of soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, garlic, and spices, then pan-seared to perfection and coated in a deliciously thickened sticky sauce. This quick and easy skillet recipe is perfect as a savory appetizer or a satisfying main dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak and Marinade

  • 1 pound sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

For Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Garnish

  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, minced garlic, ground ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes until well combined.
  2. Marinate the Steak: Place the steak cubes in a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Seal or cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, up to 2 hours for deeper flavor infusion.
  3. Heat the Skillet: Warm the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat to get it ready for searing.
  4. Cook the Steak Bites: Remove steak cubes from marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off, then add steak in a single layer to the hot skillet. Cook each side for 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked to your preferred doneness.
  5. Simmer the Sauce: Pour remaining marinade into the skillet, bring to a simmer, and cook for 2-3 minutes while stirring often until the sauce thickens and glazes the steak bites.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove skillet from heat, sprinkle sliced green onions over the top, and serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Marinate the steak up to 2 hours but no longer to avoid meat texture becoming mushy.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes to control heat level or omit for a milder taste.
  • Use a cast iron or heavy skillet for best searing results.
  • Serve with steamed rice or veggies for a complete meal.
  • If thicker sauce is desired, simmer a minute longer or add a cornstarch slurry.
