  • Author: Simon
  • Total Time: 7 hours 40 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

This Slow Cooker Beef Tips and Gravy recipe features tender stew meat cooked low and slow in a flavorful broth made with garlic, onion soup mix, and Worcestershire sauce, thickened perfectly with cornstarch. It’s a comforting dish perfect for serving over rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef and Seasoning

  • 2 lbs stew meat
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • 3 tbsp garlic (minced)

Sauce

  • 1 (1 oz) package dry onion soup mix
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beef: Place the stew meat in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker to create an even layer for cooking.
  2. Mix sauce ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together salt, pepper, dried thyme, minced garlic, dry onion soup mix, beef broth, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and cornstarch until fully combined.
  3. Combine and cook: Pour the prepared sauce mixture over the beef in the slow cooker. Cover with the lid and cook on low for 7 to 8 hours, allowing the beef to become tender and the flavors to meld.
  4. Serve: Once cooked, spoon the beef tips and gravy over cooked rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes and enjoy a hearty, comforting meal.

Notes

  • For thicker gravy, you can dissolve an additional tablespoon of cornstarch in cold water and stir it into the gravy near the end of cooking, then cook on high for 15-20 minutes.
  • Using a 6-quart slow cooker helps ensure even cooking and enough space for the ingredients.
  • You can substitute ketchup with tomato paste for a richer flavor.
  • Beef broth can be replaced with mushroom broth for a deeper umami taste.
  • If you prefer, browned the stew meat in a skillet before placing it in the slow cooker to add additional flavor.
