Description

A fresh and vibrant Balsamic Tomato Salad featuring ripe tomatoes tossed in a flavorful dressing of extra-virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic, and aromatic herbs. This easy-to-make salad is perfect as a light appetizer or a refreshing side dish for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Salad

  • 24 ounces ripe tomatoes (such as plum, cherry, grape, or other varieties)

Dressing

  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 medium cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh oregano (or 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano)
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh basil (or 1/2 teaspoon dried basil)
  • Fine salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh sprigs of oregano or fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tomatoes: Slice the 24 ounces of ripe tomatoes in half. If using plum or larger tomatoes, core them to remove the seeds and chop into desired chunks. For smaller tomatoes like grape or cherry, simply halve them to help absorb the dressing flavors.
  2. Toss with Dressing: Place the chopped tomatoes in a large bowl. Add 3 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil, 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon of finely chopped oregano, and 1 teaspoon of finely chopped basil. Toss everything well to ensure the tomatoes are evenly coated with the dressing.
  3. Season and Serve: Transfer the tomato salad to a serving dish. Season with fine salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Optionally, garnish with fresh oregano sprigs or basil leaves. Serve immediately or chilled as desired.

Notes

  • Use ripe and flavorful tomatoes for the best taste.
  • For a stronger herb flavor, use fresh oregano and basil instead of dried.
  • This salad is best served fresh but can be refrigerated for up to 2 hours before serving.
  • Feel free to customize with additional ingredients like thinly sliced red onion or mozzarella for variation.
