  • Author: Simon
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 sliders 1x

Description

These French Dip Sliders combine soft King’s Hawaiian Savory Butter Rolls filled with layers of roast beef, provolone cheese, caramelized onions, and a creamy horseradish mayo, all baked to golden perfection and served with a rich homemade beef jus for dipping. Perfect as a crowd-pleasing appetizer or a savory snack, the sliders offer a perfect balance of buttery rolls, flavorful beef, and melty cheese with a tangy horseradish kick.

Ingredients

Scale

Sliders

  • 1 package King’s Hawaiian Savory Butter Rolls (yellow banner on package)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon cream-style horseradish (preferably Inglehoffer)
  • 1/2 pound provolone or Swiss cheese, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 pound deli roast beef, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup caramelized onions
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley, plus additional for garnish

Beef Jus

  • 2 cups beef broth or stock
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large garlic clove, minced
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons all purpose flour (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 12 teaspoons Better Than Bouillon Reduced Sodium Roasted Beef Base (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme)
  • Kosher salt and freshly-ground black pepper to taste (added 1/4 tsp black pepper in recipe)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Rolls: Use a serrated bread knife to slice the King’s Hawaiian rolls horizontally into tops and bottoms. Place the halves cut side up on a baking sheet.
  2. Broil the Rolls: Preheat your oven’s broiler on high with the rack about 6 inches from the heat source. Broil the rolls for 1-2 minutes until lightly toasted. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
  3. Assemble Sliders: Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly coat a 10.5×7.5-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Place the bottom halves of the rolls toasted side up in the dish. Mix mayonnaise and horseradish; spread half this mixture on the roll bottoms.
  4. Layer Fillings: Add half the cheese over the horseradish mayo, then all the roast beef, caramelized onions, and remaining cheese. Spread remaining horseradish mayo on the toasted tops and place them cheese side down over the layers.
  5. Butter Sauce & Bake: Combine melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and parsley. Brush generously over tops and sides of sliders, allowing excess to drip into the dish. Cover with foil and bake 20 minutes until heated through and cheese melts. Remove foil and bake 5-8 minutes more until tops are golden and crisp.
  6. Rest & Serve: Let sliders rest 2-3 minutes, then slice into individual servings. Garnish with extra parsley if desired.
  7. Make Jus: While baking, melt butter in a saucepan on medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Stir in flour and cook another 1-2 minutes.
  8. Add Liquids & Simmer: Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and black pepper. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  9. Season & Strain Jus: Taste jus and add Better Than Bouillon if a deeper beef flavor is desired. Season with salt and pepper. Strain through a fine mesh sieve, discard solids, and keep warm for serving as a dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Watch the rolls carefully while broiling to prevent burning as they toast quickly.
  • The flour in the jus is optional but helps thicken it for better dipping consistency.
  • Use Better Than Bouillon roasted beef base sparingly to adjust the jus flavor based on your broth’s strength.
  • Caramelized onions add sweetness and depth; they can be made ahead and stored refrigerated.
  • For an easier assembly, prepare the horseradish mayo and slice cheese and roast beef ahead of time.
  • Serve the jus warm in small cups to allow guests to dip sliders individually.
