Ingredients
Scale
Tofu and Marinade
- 1 block of firm tofu (280g)
- 1 tbsp soy sauce (for the marinade)
- Optional: a splash of sesame oil
Coating
- 3 tbsp corn flour
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp pepper
Cooking
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp butter
Instructions
- Prepare the tofu: Press the tofu to remove excess moisture if necessary, then pat dry. Cut the tofu into approximately 2cm thick slices or cubes as preferred.
- Marinate: Place the tofu in a container and pour over 1 tbsp soy sauce and an optional splash of sesame oil. Let it marinate for 30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Coat the tofu: On a plate, mix the corn flour, salt, and pepper. Press each tofu slice or cube firmly into this mixture on both sides to create a light coating.
- Fry the tofu: Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Using tongs, add the coated tofu pieces and fry each side for about 3 minutes until golden and crispy. Remove the tofu from the pan and set aside.
- Make the sauce: In the same pan, add minced garlic and sauté briefly until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Then add 3 tbsp soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, honey, and butter. Stir and cook until the butter has melted and the sauce is aromatic.
- Combine tofu with sauce: Return the tofu to the pan and cook each side in the honey garlic sauce for 2-3 minutes, carefully turning to ensure all sides are well coated and caramelized with the sauce.
- Serve: Remove the tofu from the pan, slice into strips, and serve immediately with fluffy white rice and garnish with thinly sliced spring onions. Enjoy your delicious honey garlic tofu!
Notes
- Pressing the tofu helps it absorb more marinade and achieve a better texture when fried.
- For extra flavor, sesame oil can be added to the marinade.
- You can substitute corn flour with potato starch or all-purpose flour if needed.
- Adjust the honey amount according to how sweet you like your sauce.
- This dish pairs perfectly with steamed rice and fresh vegetables for a balanced meal.
