Ingredients
Scale
Brownies
- 1 box brownie mix (for 8×8 pan)
Pudding Mixture
- 2 cups milk
- 1 (5.1 ounce) package chocolate instant pudding mix
- 1/2 of 16 ounce container cool whip
Other
- Remaining 8 ounces cool whip (from the 16 ounce container)
- Chocolate bar (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare Brownies: Follow the package directions to bake the brownies in an 8×8 pan. Allow them to cool completely. Once cooled, divide the brownie into thirds. Cut one third into small squares and set aside for garnish. Crumble the remaining two thirds into pieces, keeping them separate for layering.
- Make Pudding Mixture: In a bowl, mix the chocolate instant pudding mix with 2 cups of milk according to package instructions until it thickens. Gently fold in half of the cool whip (8 ounces) into the pudding until combined and smooth.
- Assemble Trifle Layers: Begin by placing one third of the crumbled brownies at the bottom of a trifle dish. Spread half of the pudding mixture evenly over the brownie layer. Next, add half of the remaining cool whip on top of the pudding. Repeat the layers once more starting again with a third of the crumbled brownies, then the remaining pudding, and finally the remaining cool whip.
- Garnish and Chill: Arrange the small brownie squares in the center on top of the final cool whip layer. Using a vegetable peeler, shave chocolate from a chocolate bar over the top of the trifle to garnish. Refrigerate the trifle until ready to serve, allowing the flavors to meld together.
Notes
- Make sure brownies are completely cool before assembling to avoid melting the whipped topping.
- For extra texture and flavor, add a layer of chopped nuts or fresh berries between layers.
- The dessert can be prepared a few hours ahead and kept refrigerated for best results.
- Use a clear trifle dish to showcase the beautiful layered effect.
