This comforting Amish Country Casserole combines tender pasta, savory ground beef sautéed with garlic and onions, and creamy tomato and mushroom soups, baked to perfection with a sprinkle of paprika and parsley for a hearty, flavorful meal perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 packet pasta (any type, about 1216 oz)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons garlic, chopped or crushed (or store-bought garlic paste)
  • 750 grams ground beef
  • 1 can tomato soup (about 10.5 oz)
  • 1 can mushroom soup (about 10.5 oz)
  • 1 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Garnish

  • ½ tablespoon paprika
  • ½ tablespoon parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit (about 93 degrees Celsius) and grease a baking pan to prevent sticking while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
  2. Cook Pasta: Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Once cooked, drain the pasta and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process and prevent it from sticking together.
  3. Sauté Aromatics and Beef: In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and garlic, sautéing until fragrant and translucent. Add the ground beef, cooking thoroughly until browned and no longer pink, breaking it up as it cooks.
  4. Combine Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, browned beef mixture, cans of tomato and mushroom soup, and milk. Season with salt and pepper to taste, stirring well to mix all ingredients evenly.
  5. Prepare for Baking: Pour the combined mixture into the greased baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the top with paprika and parsley for added flavor and color.
  6. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until the casserole is heated through and the flavors have melded together.

Notes

  • Using cold water to rinse the pasta after cooking prevents it from sticking and maintains its texture in the casserole.
  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • Feel free to add vegetables such as bell peppers, mushrooms, or peas for extra nutrition and flavor.
  • Adjust the seasoning with additional herbs like thyme or oregano if desired.
  • To make this dish gluten-free, use gluten-free pasta and ensure soups are gluten-free.
